If you think you should be on the team you weren't at training last Tuesday and weren't selected.

If you couldn't make it e-mail me ciaranfagan@gmail.com

We have to start knuckling down at training consistently if we want to have a good go at Varsities which is less than 2 months away.

This e-mail is meant for anyone who wants to play competitively but there's absolutely no pressure anyone here it's up to you. It's great to see so many of us out every week and I'd love to see the same numbers at the end of the year.

Peace.
Ciarán!

Venue:

Division 1 will take place in the Trinity sports grounds in Santry. This is located on Santry Avenue, with the entrance very close to the Aldi on that road. A Google map is available at this link: http://bit.ly/aC334u.

Multiple buses will bring you in the vicinity of the sports ground, such as the 33, 41, 41a, 41b, 41c (all of which leave from Lower Abbey Street, just off O’Connell Street); and the 16a and 746 (which leave from Westmoreland Street). Get off on the Swords Road just after the Omni Park Shopping Centre; the sports ground is a short walk away. Check bus times here: http://www.dublinbus.ie/your_journey/timetables.asp

Once you walk through the gates to the sports ground, changing rooms are directly ahead of you. Pitches are off to the right of the changing rooms.

Great effort from those that showed up today.

Game 1 against UCC was a nice experience. Shimbo, Naoise, P-Unit, Ben, Casey and Savage were on the line waiting to go when Pius showed up to bring us up to the magic number of 7!!Ciaras was there, using his own unique coaching style from the line and being a bit of a hero. Anyway, UCC saw that we were very hungry and served up a really tasty breakfast bagel. 15-0. They were warming up for at least 45 minutes before hand, we did a lap, stretches and barely touched a disk. We were off the pace and they punished every mistake. We may have deserved one or two points, but that was about it. Naoise's poor little legs were done after about half the game here. Poor lad, he does have a dicky ticker...

Game 2 was against a strong Trinity team. We were slightly better warmed up and we had a sub!!! Cian O had finally shaken off his hangover to join us. We started off well and put it up to them, scoring first and finding ourselves 3-2 down. Some silly mistakes crept into our game and Trinity punished them. We never stopped battling. It finished 15-3 in the end, our turnovers as we approached their endzone cost us alot, as did our lack of subs. We did put together some nice give and go Ultimate and caused their zone some problems though, we were improving.

We had a nice 2 hour lunch break so some of us went to the local subway and some footlongs. We then got ourselves some food. WAAAAAYYY!!!!

Game 3 was against UL. Pius had unforutnately departed (apparently there was some game on in Croke Park), but fear not for we had been joined by Nick who'd cycled from Blackrock and Dan. 9 players now, we were really spoiling ourselves! We'd seen UL them play and noticed their reliance on their deep game. We targeted this and decided to front them. We started off fantastically as I dropped the pull and then got broken for a score. Right. Next pull came my way, I wisely let it hit the ground and threw to Casey, Casey threw to.... one of their players. Score. 2-0 and things weren't looking great. We decided we'd try get two passes together this point. We got our fingers out and started to play like a team. Our forcing worked and took away their long game as we took half at 8-3. We lead 9-4 before taking our foot off the pedal/being bloody knackered. UlL started to get their long game off and pegged us back to 9-6 and were unlucky not to get more. We eventually won 11-7 with some very scrappy points towards the end. I t was great to see a UL girl's splits as she caught a disc, also Naoise collapsing after chasing down a disc... Poor lad, that was the last we saw of him in the tournament.

Our final game was against DCU, we spent a whole 15 minutes warming up, madness!!! Unfortunately, Naoise was pretty much dead this stage and Cian had buggered off to work the streets. We were practically Ironman again, Naoise, did play a point or two at the start. This was a close game, neither team expected it! Our thorough warm up paid dividends as we raced into a 3-0 lead. We kept our goals short term and just focused on Games to 3. DCU came back at us, but we kept our noses in front at 4-3. We traded up to 7-6. Our D was fantastic, pressuring them all the tiem with myself getting a few great layouts (yes, I'm mentioning them, I like my ego). Again, our tired legs couldn't quite carry us over the line. P-Unit could barely move above a jog, neither could Savage. DCU leveled it at 7-7, then went 8-7 up, game to 9. Try as we might we just couldn't keep up with them. Their numbers helping them considerably. They closed the game out in the dusk 9-7, but they were made work for every inch.

All in all, ome great performances today. Naoise doing what he could, when he could was invaluable. P-Unit and Dan will have learned alot from the experince (like buying some boots, Unit!), SAvage and Nick were immense cutting. Cian as well. Ben, myself and Casey did our best at the back, with savage and Nick helping as well. It took us a while to get used to each other but the resets worked. On D, apart from the UCC game, you couldn't ask for more.

Well done to those brave souls, those heroes of UCD Ultimate:

Ben
Casey
Cian
Ciaras
Dan
Naoise
Nick
P-Unit - MSP
Pius
Savage
Shimbo - MVP

From the TD....

"Hello,

Playoffs in Division 1 of the Intervarsity League 2010 took place yesterday in Santry, while Division 2 ran simultaneously in Grangegorman. In total, ten college teams competed.

Thanks to all the teams that travelled up and congratulations on some very hard-fought games. Thanks also to: Richard Buggy for supplying the venue for Division 2 and TDing on the day- it couldn't have run without this work; Dominick Smyth, Ian French, Keith Coleman, Kevin Timoney, Daragh Gleeson, Dave Smyth and Sam Mehigan for help with getting things set up on the day and timekeeping; and Heather Barry, Redmond Scanlon, Fiona Mernagh and everyone else who helped clean up at the end of the day. Apologies for the unexpected delays with getting things started out in Santry, the messiness of some of the pitches and for having to rush to get everyone cleared out towards the end; hope you enjoyed the day regardless.

The results from the day are as follows:

Division 1:

1. UCC Skultimate [Spirit avg.: 14.75] (Qualified for Div 1 UK Nationals) (Spirit Winners)
2. Trinity College Dublin [Spirit avg.: 13.5] (Qualified for Div 2 UK Nationals)
3. Captain Huck (DCU) [Spirit avg.: 13.25]
4. Chilli-o (UCD) [Spirit avg.: 11.25]
5. UL Ninjas [Spirit avg.: 11.5]

Division 2:

1. Queen's University Belfast (Spirit Winners)
2. Dublin Institute of Technology
3. UCC Skultimate 2
4. National University of Ireland, Galway
5. All-Stars (NCI, ITT, NUIM and UCC)

Lost Property:

The following was picked up from Santry yesterday:

- Green "CS Active" Hoodie
- Black "CS Active" Hoodie
- Gray "CS Active"(!!) Zippie Hoodie
- Navy "O'Neills" Tracksuit Bottoms
- Black "Kukri" Tracksuit Bottoms(Mine!)
- Black "Nike" Tracksuit Bottoms
- Black Hat with Grey Design That I Find Difficult To Describe With Any More Precise Detail

This stuff is making my room smell really very bad, so please get back to me during the week if you own any of it. If you do, you can collect it from me at the Siege. If I don't hear back about a particular item by Sunday 14th, I'll be donating it to a charity shop- so, might be a good idea for captains to pass this list onto their members soon.

Also, Lindsay from UL lost a camera at the tournament. If you came across it and picked it up, please get in touch with me and let me know. Thanks.

-David"

Wow! Last in spirit, for fuck sake!!
